Ghost-hunting

As a small kid, I always thought that monsters lived in our basement. I mean, most kids do, right? But back then I wasn’t the adventurous ghost-hunting type. I was a strategist. So in order to keep the monsters from invading my slumber, I lined my bedroom wall with stuffed animals that would protect me just in case they made their way upstairs. How might stuffed animals protect me, you ask? Well, every weekend I arranged a battleground in my bedroom. Just the stuffed animals and me. Doors closed, together engaged in epic wrestling matches that sometimes spanned for hours. I trained them the techniques for various submission holds and the art of self-defense and bore the bruises to prove it. In case of an attack…they (we) would be ready!

My years of preparation were done in vain; however, as the attacks never came and I eventually retired my trained, stuffed animal security forces. At least that’s what I thoughtuntil one fateful night during my teenage years.

“Eddie.”
“Eddddddie.”

“Yeah, ma?” I replied.
No response…
“Hold on, I’m gonna grab something from the fridge in the garage.” I continued.
“Eddie!” that time louder and with more force.
“I’m coming!” I screamed back while exiting the garage with my chocolate chip pudding cake in hand.
I ran to the base of the stairs leading up to my parent’s bedroom—
“Ma!”
No response.
“Mamaaaa!” I yelled again into the upstairs darkness once more.
No response.
Silence…
(I was alone)

Ghost hunting??? “I ain’t afraid of no ghosts!”

I remember that scene like it was yesterday. Just getting home after a tough football practice—tired, hungry, and ready to eat. Me being the big, strong high school football co-captain at the time, no longer dependent on stuffed animals for protection…how do you think I reacted?

I picked up the phone and called my best friend

I picked up the phone and called my best friend…

“Willie, I’m coming over to your house for dinner tonight!”

Fast-forward to the present day and, as frightening as that experience may have been, the thrill-seeker in me is now ready to roll. Stay tuned for the results of visits to “haunted” sights in and around Delhi during my upcoming trip to India.
