Keeping Your Immune System in Check and Staying Healthy While Traveling Abroad

by Marie Nieves

hiking is good for the immune system

Traveling abroad, visiting amazing places and meeting interesting people can be exciting, but it puts serious pressure on our immune system. Even though it may seem that you are having fun without any major discomforts, your body is fighting from the inside to keep you going and healthy. That is why you should do your white blood cells a favor, and help them protect you during the whole trip.

Quality Sleep

It may seem silly, but sleep deprivation can greatly weaken your immune system. In order to avoid that and vulnerability to developing illnesses, you should do your best and sleep at least 8 hours each night during your travel. What sleep does to your body is producing the natural melatonin which is responsible for the strong immune system. In addition to good sleep, you need to give yourself a chance to rest. Especially if you are going abroad because of work. Each time you get the chance, get off the computer and phone, and simply relax and let your body repair itself.

A Healthy Diet

Another great way to preserve your immune system is quality food. You need to pay special attention and choose only the healthy food rich in nutrients because the warriors of the immune system are in your stomach. Long story short, your diet should be filled with meals that are high in protein and fiber, low in carbs and easy to digest. And, of course, make sure to eat plenty of fresh fruits and veggies. Also, fermented foods, such as yoghurt and pickles contain probiotics which will only boost your immune system. Another great idea for protecting your health on a trip is by taking some vitamin supplements. Take some vitamin C and B to boost your immune system, but if you want extra safety you can carry your Fusion Health cocktail for immune system, and never worry about getting sick on a trip.

Plenty of Exercising

Just like a healthy diet, exercising contributes to your well-being and, therefore, your immune system. While traveling, you will probably find yourself sitting a lot (especially on a business trip) and your body will crave for moving around in order to stay in shape. Even while traveling, short but regular exercising will improve your blood circulation, thus ensuring that you will have great cardiovascular health, lower blood pressure and you will be able to successfully manage your weight and fight against many diseases. Additionally, better blood flow allows the cells of immune system to freely and quickly move through your body, doing their job efficiently.

No Antibiotics

Antibiotics may sound like a quick fix, but there are major downsides to taking them regularly. If you have a runny nose, sore throat or cough, do not go for antibiotics. These can only help you win the fight against the bacterial infections and diseases, not the viral ones. Each time you take an antibiotic, your hormone messengers of the immune system get fooled and the system is instantly suppressed. This later leads you to being more prone to diseases or even immune to antibiotics. Instead, opt for healthier, less invasive remedies, such as tea, vitamins and rest.

Do not Smoke

If there are not already enough reasons to stop you from smoking or make you quit, this is your chance. Cigarettes and smoking are just horrible for your whole well-being, and you can then just imagine what it can do to your immune system. Also, you should try and avoid being in the immediate environment of your smoker friends. Second-hand smoke is just as bad as the direct one, so try and stay away from it. To make things better for everyone, you can persuade your friends and family to stop, too, and be healthier altogether.

These rules for healthy immune system should be present in your everyday life. However, the special accent should be put on them while going abroad, since traveling stresses out our bodies. Be kind to your white blood cells and they sure will return the favor by keeping your body in the top notch condition.

Great tips! I guess any traveler must be aware of this, especially it’s different wherever you may be. A country may have various climates that could affect your whole system. It’s best to eat healthy, stay healthy and drink lots and lots of water to avoid dehydration or whatsoever. The next time that I’ll travel, I’ll keep this in mind!

I agree that staying healthy is key in creating a perfect travel experience. You can probably add another tip – drink in moderation. Cause surely, social drinking is a must but of course, travellers should take just the right amount of alcohol especially when they are not in their comfort zones.
